The Kodiak formula for smarter machining with Cutrite™ 3012H
The challenge
A much-needed upgrade in fluid performance.
A manufacturer of passenger car engines was using a synthetic fluid for several machining operations, including work on steel brake housings, cast iron rotors, and spun cast cylinder sleeves.
However, the fluid caused multiple issues: clinker buildup in sumps, corrosion on parts, strong bacterial odors, and a noticeably short coolant lifespan. These problems created inefficiencies, increased maintenance, and compromised part quality – making it clear that a more reliable solution was needed.

To address the recurring issues, Kodiak’s metalworking division recommended Cutrite™ 3012H – a highly engineered fluid developed to run clean, prevent rust, and significantly extend sump life.
Working in close partnership with the plant’s engineering team, a 9-month trial was launched to compare Cutrite 3012H against the customer’s existing fluid. The evaluation focused on key performance indicators: tool life, part quality, fluid consumption, recycling efficiency, and operator feedback.
The outcome
Achieve extended tool life and reduced ownership expenses.
The use of Kodiak’s Cutrite 3012H led to measurable improvements across the board:
- +7% increase in insert life for cylinder bores
- +9% increase in rollform tap life
- -30% reduction in coolant costs, thanks to lower consumption and improved recycling
- Consistent drill performance throughout the trial
- Complete elimination of rust issues and unpleasant odors
- Clinkering fully resolved in all sumps
